During the last year, different administrations in the Canary Islands have been working to obtain administrative licenses to build the TMT in La Palma in a complex process with multiple steps to follow.
They required the licenses that would make the construction possible by the municipalities of Garafía and Puntagorda, the municipalities on whose surface we could locate the telescope and the access roads.
The representatives of the project declared the following upon hearing the news “We are very pleased and grateful that the land concession has been granted in La Palma. Maunakea remains the preferred site for TMT but this is an essential step in the process for developing our plan B, should it not be possible to build TMT in Hawaii . At this moment, there is no date set for determining our next steps for constructing TMT ”
