National Astronomical Observatories of the Chinese Academy of Sciences
The Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) is the linchpin of China’s drive to explore and harness high technology and the natural sciences for the benefit of China and the world. Comprising a comprehensive research and development network, a merit-based academic society and a system of higher education, CAS brings together scientists and engineers from China and around the world to address both theoretical and applied problems using world-class scientific and management approaches.
National Astronomical Observatories, Chinese Academy of Sciences (NAOC) were officially founded in April 2001 through the bringing together of four Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) observatories, three CAS observing stations and one CAS research center.
National Institutes of Natural Sciences/National Astronomical Observatory of Japan
The National Institutes of Natural Sciences (NINS) consists of five inter-university research institutes: the National Astronomical Observatory of Japan (NAOJ), the National Institute for Fusion Science (NIFS), the National Institute for Basic Biology (NIBB), the National Institute for Physiological Sciences (NIPS), and the Institute for Molecular Science (IMS). In addition to 
playing a leading role in its respective research field, each institute has a collaborative relationship with NINS with the common goal of creating an interdisciplinary and international research base.
National Astronomical Observatory of Japan (NAOJ), a core national institute for astronomy in Japan, has the world’s most advanced observing facilities. As a member institute of an inter-university research agency, NAOJ promotes the sharing of those facilities with the researchers throughout the nation and also conducts observations and researches including the collaborative research projects.
