Neighbours of El Roque de los Muchachos: Galileo National Telescope (TNG)

The Telescopio Nazionale Galileo is the most important installation of the Italian astronomical community, installed in 1998, belongs to the Italian National Institute of Astrophysics (INAF) and is managed by the Galileo Galilei INAF Foundation, Canarian Foundation (FGG).

The TNG is equipped with 3 instruments permanently installed in its spotlights and offers a wide variety of observation modes that cover the optical and near infrared spectrum and offer high resolution spectrometry images. Galileo is open to the entire international scientific community and therefore it is currently developing different study programs that cover all fields of astronomical research.

Its most important contributions are about the search for planets around nearby stars, the study of the most distant objects in the universe or the study of comets and asteroids that orbit around the sun.
